i was talking to an affianced buddy of mine, and we got to talking about different customs and traditions for weddings. like if the bride and groom are from two radically different beliefs...or at least their families have diff beliefs. slight argument on what to do in that situation. i don't know, vietnamese weddings have two ceremonies anyway, one for the bride and one for the groom. i don't think its out of line to have two ceremonies in two locations in the same day, but i would think it does suck for the guests, if they only go to one and have time to kill, or if they have to go to both. but hey, what can you do. it is important to acknowledge the traditions of both families.

in my family's case...my mom got married in a white dress. not an ao dai. i guess that means IIII don't have to wear an ao dai...of course, my parents had a super small inexpensive wedding, whereas i will have a big shindig that will be wonderful yet intimate, as i don't want to start my life out in debt. cuz that would suck.

not that i'm getting married.

i need a job first.

but anyway, i think some wedding traditions are wonderful...in general, anyway. vietnamese weddings have a bad rep. MY wedding will:
1. start ON TIME. ceremony and reception. forget that asian time, 2 hours later. ugh.
2. have a REAL band. no horrible singers, no really loud annoying music, NO karoake...at least not til the end. i will allow the cha-cha and all that sappy old people dancing goodness, so long as their is a decent amount of GOOD music played as well.
3. have good food. i repeat, good food. they will not all have heads attached, and some will be kid and vegan friendly. chinese restaurant food is fine, but has to be really nice. that or steak.
4. change no more than 2 times, or have more than 2 outfits. any more is just ridiculous.
5. hopefully, not have really drunk and loud people clinking glasses and shouting. cuz that's obnoxious.
6. have no garter ceremony. tacky. tacky. tacky.
7. go for classy and tasteful, not flashy, tacky, or boastful.

i'll think of more for later. but yeah.

in the next year or two, there will be a few weddings, hopefully i can see them and they will follow my criteria of things that make a not-suck wedding.
