back from oregon!!
as one guy said, the sky was full of falling drops of sunshine. oh, drops of sunshine. made polishing a moot point. so wet i had to unstrap and dry the leather.
friday. left at 6ish in the am. that's early! i'm so glad i brought a pillow and a blanket. slept until redding, where we played at a middle school, and then played with their band. that was a lot of fun!! i got to play around with all their auxiliary percussion toys. one kid was like, "wow...there's no music, but its like you're reading my mind and you know what to play!" i found that amusing...but not as amusing as brad playing snare with irina's drum. which was up around hit armpits.
left redding, relaxed until heaven on earth. omg. biggest cinnamon buns ever. chose to sit with bob and irina and jason and some others...which i'm glad i did, since when they raffled off food prizes at the end, our table cleaned up. irina got apple crisp (which i love) and she gave it to me (thanks irina!!), noli won a giant cinnamon bun (which he later shared at the motel), and i won a thing of apple butter. bob also got a cinnamon bun. and then we sang toast.
motel. checked in. noli and i had a room to ourselves (awesome, means i didn't have to wait for the shower). then we went drinking with bob (haha), will, shat, tets, ling, brent, hanadi!, chappy, and a few others at joggers. thanks to bob for the 3 pitchers! there was this guy dancing by himself, we tried to dare ling to dance with him, but no go.
walking back, ling and shat took a leak. hahaha. then we hit the taco bell drive thru and the adult store. oh, eugene. you have everything college students want. booze, cheap food, and porn. then back at the hotel to chillax.
off to autzen stadium!! but first, the bookstore. ended up getting two shirts and a pin. noli got a duck call thing which is so annoying! :P the stadium, i have to admit, is ridiculously impressive, even in the rain. and the turnout was incredible. sold out even though it was not ideal conditions...and ppl were tailgating and all over the place, too. in full out galoshes and raincoats. guess they must be used to it. the cal band, however, was soggy. very soggy. oregon band's uniforms make sense for the weather, since everything could get wet, and they could stay warm. insanely jealous about the crazy nike stuff they have. and you just know when that nike guy croaks, he's gonna leave the school billions.
oh. and then we lost. 20-20 into overtime, then we just couldn't do it. i blame that last field goal attempt...it was so close. oh. and according to like everyone, i was on tv for 5 whole seconds and then they zoomed into my cymbal. good thing i polished. how cool is that?? too bad it was nasty and i prolly looked nasty. oh well.
i LOVE how people, right after a game, talk about either why we lost or won or our bowl game status. the last thing i usually want to do it dissect a loss.
after the game, we drove around for hours and finally went to pizza hut, where old bob treated. then, when we got back to the hotel, noli and i dried our stuff over the vents and by ironing, i took a shower, and then we went to the mexican food place cuz we were still hungry. then some drinking and king's cup. a good way to forget a loss. oh, and arizona wupped ucla. how cool is that? we shut out AZ, then they go and beat a team we lost to.
6am, on the bus. slept til redding, where we played at the sundial bridge. that was seriously cool. i remember reading about it. too bad its not as visual as it could be...you wouldn't know it was there unless you knew beforehand.
then more sleep and movies til berkeley. it was a good trip. :)
some sad stuff:
yang tze river restaurant is no more. and i didn't get to say goodbye. same for la fontina. its like my food world is crumbling around me.
